Hi Friends,
It’s me — Michael Misko, your friendly neighborhood magic director.
When you’re working out a new routine, one of the best ways to get it on it’s feet quickly is to record it. Watch yourself perform the routine. Do you have happy feet? Are you stuttering over words? Was there a great ad lib tonight? It’s easy to do this debrief on the ride back home or to the hotel – or while you’re resetting your show case (I talk about this in my book, Comedy, Character & Control).
And I know what you might be thinking: “I hate watching myself,” or, “I hate the sound of my own voice.” Well…TOUGH! It needs to be done, if not for you, then for your audience.
And speaking of, “your audience”: once you’ve reviewed your material on video a few times, turn the camera around and record THEM! Look for tells:
-
when do they check their watch
-
when do they talk to their neighbor
-
when do they check their phone
-
when do they look away from you
-
when do they lean in
-
when do they laugh
Armed with this information, you know exactly where to plug the leaks!
WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW!
Find the leaks, fix the leaks, and keep them engaged the entire time.
If you’d like to plug the hole sooner, I can be your Flex Tape! Let me use my years in the theatre and on stage to help you think like your audience thinks and anticipate their boredom before it starts. We all need a trusted set of objective eyes on our material. Let me be yours.
If you’re serious about taking your magic to the next level, set up a consult call! Check out the details at my coaching site:
Best,
Michael
