I generally find that when someone tells me they’re a comedy magician, they’re probably lying about one of those two things. But it might not be their fault!
Just like “Show Business” is two words of equal importance, so too is “Comedy Magic.”
Two. Words. Equal. Weight.
I am a comedy magician. That means that I need my audience to accept both parts of that image. I need them to buy-in on my being a comedian just as much (if not more) as I need them to believe I’m a magician.
From a performance perspective, it’s simple. Put the work into the jokes, put them in the right order, listen to your audience. Edit. Rinse. Repeat.
But if you’re anything like me, dear reader, then you like to be belt and suspenders prepared! How can you get the audience to subconciously buy-in before you set foot onstage?
